Dear friends, and especially you who revel in the goregrind delectables, today marks the official release of the third installment of the book series Dělníci kovu by the Czech writer and music journalist Václav Votruba, this time with the life story of Maty, the iconic showman and frontman of the one and only Gutalax!

The testimony of Maty of Gutalax. The new volume of Dělníci kovu maps his fascinating life

A hazmat suit, protective goggles and a distinct vocal delivery. Energized to max and able to push his fans to do incredible feats. Thus we know Martin “Maty” Matoušek, the frontman of the unmistakable Gutalax, who hails from the town of Křemže in South Bohemia. Maty is a natural born showman and one of the most emphatic and most popular figures of both the Czech and the international extreme metal scene. Read about his life’s journey in the new book by Václav Votruba, which is part of his Dělníci kovu (The Metalworkers) series.

“Dělníci kovu are my joy. It is my (and of the publisher MetalGate, without whom there would be no books) way of paying homage to the individuals who left a deep mark on the local scene. I certainly wanted to include Maty in the series. I recall his modest outset and the rocket rise, unprecedented for the local scene, that followed. And after everything he has been through, he is still the humble and avid fan of music I met all those years ago, which I find very appealing,” says Václav Votruba.

And not just a music fan. Maty is also an avid film fan, collecting classic VHS cassettes; something the book covers as well, along with his activities of gig organization and promotion, or his role as a parent. Simply put, this book-long interview shows Maty's life in all its complexity, from his first steps (quite literally) to him performing at major music festivals.

“Almost nothing that is mentioned in the book would not happen, had I not had the best family and friends to carry on with. This read may officially be named Maty, it was never about just me, but always about us and all the others around,” emphasizes Maty in the epilogue.

Dělníci kovu III: Maty spans 128 pages in total in paperback format. Included is also an overview of Maty's discography, as well as plenty of photos from his archive. The previous volumes featured Necrocock (Kaviar Kavalier, Necrocock, Master’s Hammer) and Vlakin (Ingrowing).

As usual, the book is available in CZ only, BUT should you want it in your collection regardless, drop us a message and we can make individual arrangements.
