In the footsteps of death metal gods. The official biography of Obituary is published!
Brutal riffs, a sound that breaks bones and on top of all that the scream of a raging beast. Obituary are a classic. An utterly distinctive band that wrote death metal history and still belongs to the most popular on the scene. Rightfully so. Now, the Prague-based publisher MetalGate unleashes on the Czech readership the acclaimed biography Turned Inside Out: The Official Story of Obituary.
Penned by a veteran journalist and writer David E. Gehlke, whose captivating style the local readership could already sample in the Paradise Lost biography. “Obituary entered my world at the age of 12 when a chance encounter with Cause of Death transported me into the death metal scene,” observes Gehlke and continues: “I share a similar experience with many: There are few events for a music listener as jolting and life-changing as hearing John Tardy’s vocals and Trevor Peres’ guitar tone for the first time. Discovering Obituary was an affirmation of heaviness, and learning that a human being could make such primeval sounds with his vocal cords was too much for my pubescent brain to comprehend. Nearly 30 years later, it still is.”
Obituary are pioneers, who can take pride in their utterly signature sound. They have been consistent in all these years. Simply put, they are a constant the fans can rely on. Things have not been always peachy though. At the turn of the century, the band even went on hiatus, from which they managed to return as a hungry beast.
The book covers in detail the band history from the 1980s to the early 2020s, when Obituary released their tenth full-length album, and since it is a fully authorized biography, the band members were certainly involved.
Fans can look forward to more than 300 pages of in-depth interviews, studio recollections, road stories and exclusive photos. Czech translation was done by Aleš Ondráček, layout and typesetting by Radek Doleží. Original cover by Michael Wohlberg, and the proverbial icing on the cake is the foreword by Max Cavalera.
