Dear friends, as announced earlier, today is the official release of the mortuary split "Sousmrtí" of the Czech black metal dyad of NĀV and Hnus Umírající as a collectors color-in-color vinyl (transparent and red)!
New black metal vinyl sees the bands NĀV and Hnus Umírající joining forces
They share the passion for black metal, as well as a friendship that is now sealed by a joint album Sousmrtí. NĀV and Hnus Umírající both belong to the forefront of Czech black metal, to which the split stands as a testament!
Expect no serenade here. Instead, gear up for revulsion, putrefaction and rattling of bones, for Sousmrtí is the uncompromising recall of the roots of the genre. To rawness, savageness and primal energy. Indeed, the half of the split belonging to NĀV is a particular homage to the early Czech black metal. “It seems to me that what oftentimes go on EPs, splits or singles are second rate leftovers that did not make it to the full-length. And that’s not what we wanted to do this time,” says NĀV’s guitarist Ivan. “Over time I put together several dark humor rhymes, which I enjoyed reciting to the guys while driving to gigs. When Hnus approached us with the split, we pondered what to do with our part. One day we went out for a beer and decided to use those rhymes. The same day we wrote the chorus for the song Nekromant and finished the rest during the next few weeks.”
What followed was a séance with Hnus Umírající to iron out all the details (and have some drinks while at it). NĀV played through what they composed, Hnus agreed with the concept and started writing their part to complete the whole. The outcome is Sousmrtí, a cadaverous split album that gnaws on the very bones of classic black metal.
You can in fact hear the qualities of “Sousmrtí” yourself, as we stream the album in full on our YouTube channel as usual:
Bands were keen to address the album art as well. The main artwork went to the local painter Petr Gordo Malecký, while another local, Kristýna Šmídová, took care of the overall design and layout. Both were a logical choice, since they worked on the art of the debut album of Hnus Umírající that MetalGate released five years ago. In fact, it was already this debut that gained the band wider recognition. “It was an important year for us. The album got great feedback and later on in the Břitva Awards not only ended third in the Metal Album of the Year category, but also won the Discovery of the Year category,” says Satan, vocalist of Hnus Umírající.
The new album is again released by MetalGate, and all vinyl collectors should take note. The color-in-color vinyl is a treat indeed, a fine addition to your metal collections.
