Chapter twenty three: CDF

Translation:

  • Dan: Czech metal is going downhill.
  • Goro: They don't even ask us to play festivals.
  • Pedyk: This is fucked up. What to do with it?
  • All: Let's make a festival of our own, for us and our friends from other Czech bands.
  • Goro: Spot on! In our camp by the lake! Chill out, beer, kids. Heavy metal for the whole family!!!

And now for the narration.

Chapter 23 - TORTHARRY FOUNDING "CZECH DEATH FEST"

As usual, we find our guys from Tortharry having a beer before a show, but this time their mood is rather grim. It makes them angry that current times do not seem to favor the Czech metal scene, giving it no significant attention and pushing it to utter margins. TV shows focusing on metal are born only to die soon after, festivals mostly ignore the local bands, and generally speaking the attention is predominantly outward on foreign metal production. Times are hard, but the guys want to go on, make new albums, play shows, but to do so, they realize they have to do something for Czech metal.

Thus the decision is made to found their own festival, invite their friends from other bands and thus make a new platform for the local musicians. It is clear that competition from the big festivals is significant, but how about using the lakeside in Červený Kostelec as the site so that whole metal families can go camping.

If nothing else, then at least Tortharry will play once a year on their festival for the pleasure of their fans and of the local fauna, since some rare birds appear to be nesting nearby, so hopefully they will not be scared away to much displeasure of the local ornithologists.

“So, gentlemen, let’s get it on and build our festival up, and maybe in time, we will find someone to join forces with so that we can make it even bigger.”

Thus it was that Czech Death Fest was born, sometime in 2009.
